Program Overview

Linux Systems

Red Hat Enterprise Linux fundamentals: file systems, user management, process control, services, LVM, and shell scripting.

Official Certification Track: This curriculum prepares candidates directly for the Red Hat Certified System Administrator (EX200 - RHCSA) examination. Instruction incorporates real-world scenario troubleshooting, architectural best practices, and enterprise security compliance.

Curriculum & Course Outline

5 Intensive Hands-on Modules designed for mastery:

Module 1: Linux Command-Line Mastery & File Management

Part 01

Build effortless fluency in the Linux Bash environment.

  • Filesystem Hierarchy Standard (FHS), directory navigation, and file manipulation
  • Standard streams (stdin, stdout, stderr), pipes, and output redirection
  • Text processing utilities: grep, sed, awk, cut, sort, and regular expressions
  • Vim editor efficiency and creating automated Bash shell scripts

Module 2: User, Group, and Permission Governance

Part 02

Enforce multi-user boundaries and administrative privilege separation.

  • User account provisioning, shadow passwords, and group management
  • Standard permissions: read, write, execute (chmod, chown)
  • Special permissions: SUID, SGID, and the Sticky Bit
  • POSIX Access Control Lists (ACLs) using getfacl and setfacl for granular permissions
  • Sudoers file configuration for delegated administrative privileges

Module 3: Storage Management with LVM & File Systems

Part 03

Manage enterprise disks, dynamic partitions, and file systems without downtime.

  • Disk partitioning with gdisk, GPT partition tables, and filesystem formatting (XFS, EXT4)
  • Logical Volume Manager (LVM): Physical Volumes, Volume Groups, and Logical Volumes
  • Dynamic online filesystem growth and LVM snapshot creation
  • Persistent filesystem mounting with /etc/fstab, UUIDs, and systemd mount units
  • Configuring and managing swap space

Module 4: Service Management, Boot Targets & Process Control

Part 04

Control system execution states, background daemons, and scheduled tasks.

  • systemd unit architecture, service management with systemctl, and custom service units
  • Boot targets: rescue, emergency, multi-user, and graphical targets
  • Process monitoring with ps, top, htop, and kill signals
  • Process scheduling with cron and at, along with systemd timers
  • System log auditing with journalctl and rsyslog

Module 5: System Security, Firewalld & SELinux

Part 05

Harden Linux servers against unauthorized intrusion.

  • SELinux architecture: Enforcing, Permissive, and Disabled states
  • Managing SELinux file contexts, restoring contexts with restorecon, and adjusting booleans
  • Troubleshooting SELinux AVC audit denials with audit2why and sealert
  • Firewalld network isolation, zones, service rules, and rich rules
  • OpenSSH server hardening, key-based authentication, and disabling root login
Physical Lab Infrastructure

100% Hands-on Hardware & Real Equipment

Dedicated KVM/VMware Virtualized RHEL 9 / Rocky Linux Workstations with Root Access and Real-Time Storage Labs

Physical Consoles Dedicated student console access to enterprise Cisco routers and switches
Troubleshooting Labs Configured fault scenarios to build realistic diagnostic muscle memory
Extended Lab Access Extra lab hours available for practice outside regular lecture times

Key Learning Outcomes

Upon graduation, you will confidently execute the following competencies in enterprise environments:

Navigate, manipulate, and automate complex file operations via the Linux Bash shell.

Create, resize, and snapshot storage volumes dynamically using Logical Volume Manager (LVM).

Manage enterprise services, multi-user targets, and boot sequencing using systemd and systemctl.

Configure and troubleshoot SELinux modes, file context labels, and security booleans.

Implement automated periodic maintenance routines with cron and audit system activity with journalctl.
